Shoreline is a not-for-profit that provides educational programs and employment pathways, creating sustainable careers for young Indigenous Australians.

The Brief and Process

Visual Identity & Website Design

Their Managing Director, Jason, got in touch with me in late 2020. The organisation were about to relaunch as a new entity and had gone through a lengthy process creating a robust business strategy, but were really struggling with a logo. Like all good NFP’s, they’d used their resourcefulness to try to design one themselves, but nothing was resonating and — could I help them out?

I don’t usually do standalone logo projects, but their strategy was really sound and I do so much enjoy working with NFPs, and these guys did such good work I jumped on board to assist them right away. This also turned into a full website build, which we completed in March 2021.

The Creative

The turtle motif in the logo was provided to me, having being drawn by one of their young indigenous artists. With such great origins, it was a clear favourite — although I did provide a few alternatives for their consideration. Together with a carefully considered typeface and colour palette drawn from the deep shoreline colours of the Tiwi Islands (a location where their program has been running for the past seven years) I finished the first phase of the project with a mini branding suite for use across all of their communications.

With this in place, the website build was ably guided with font choices and palette already locked in. The team at Shoreline provided me with an abundance of wonderful imagery and copy to use, and the site came together nicely.
