Hello, I’m Julia. Welcome to Amadeus Brand — a compact branding and graphic design agency focused on supporting small businesses, not-for-profit organisations, and social enterprises.

When I started Amadeus Brand in 2013, I wanted to offer smaller organisations access to high-quality creative services without the complexities and costs associated with larger agencies. In the ten years leading to that point, I’d experienced first-hand the dizzying cost that decent brand strategy could climb to; something that is out of reach for most small and medium-sized enterprises or teams with limited marketing budgets.

My client journey always starts with strategy — where the ‘What’ and ‘Why’ collide. These answers beautifully uncover a brand’s values, purpose and mission, providing powerful inspiration for the creative task ahead.

I’ve worked in a few industries — beauty, tourism and financial services amongst them — and it’s the brands that are in the business of serving people that inspire me the most.

My brand values

  • My clients all have one thing in common: they want something to change, grow or expand. It’s my pleasure and privilege to walk beside them, creating resonant brands as a conduit to greater things. I’ll ask, listen and gently challenge so that my clients can move from A to B —fulfilling their aspirations in the process.

  • Strong brands start by exploring and building an intimate knowledge of a clients’ market, product and the value they offer. I’m ever-curious; lit up by the opportunity to step into my clients’ worlds and uncover the most compelling brand strategy to solve the business challenge at hand.

  • A great brand is one that speaks clearly, and can be flawlessly executed time and time again. My number one priority is that the brands I build can continue to be replicated by my clients, and their teams; empowering them to use their brand every day to grow their business.

  • Brands that connect the best answer our problems with a human voice. I’m never afraid to communicate from the heart; confidently presenting my clients’ unique value proposition in a way that sparks an authentic connection with their audience.

  • I find beauty everywhere I look: an unusual combination of colours, outstanding typography, or inspired art direction. I love the challenge of matching strategy with the best creative; building beautiful, powerful brands with an unlimited capacity to speak from the heart.

About Julia Gottlieb

When I established Amadeus Brand in 2013, I’d spent a decade working both agency and client-side for some of Australia’s biggest financial service brands, as well as marketing major sporting events such as the Gold Coast Marathon and Pan Pacific Masters Games.

This experience helped fine-tune my understanding of how brands and businesses work, the importance of consistency in messaging, and the powerful impact that brand identity can have on a bottom line.

When the birth of my first child coincided with being made redundant in a corporate restructure, I tried not to panic. I was about to complete my Masters degree in Marketing, and these two events caused me to deeply reflect on the journey ahead.

Career-wise I wanted these years to count as much as any. I also wanted to generate business on my own terms, do really interesting work and be around for my family when they needed me.

I took a deliberate step away from the ‘9 to 5’ to find where I could be of greatest impact: where marketing and brand strategy meets great graphic design in a way that’s accessible to businesses of all sizes.

Being ‘let go’ on parental leave ignited a deep interest in gender equality, and the start of a journey that’s led me to work on other human rights and social justice issues. Today, I continue this work as a volunteer board member for the Capital Punishment Justice Project, and the Big Brothers Big Sisters initiative in North East Victoria.

In the eleven years since I started Amadeus Brand, I’ve not looked back. My greatest challenge — and joy — comes from helping people and organisations find their unique brand voice and flourish.

Julia — The human

I count myself as extremely lucky to do work that I love so much. I could work seven days a week without pause.

Thankfully, I have joyful pursuits outside of work that fill my cup when I’m away from my desk. These include landscape painting, running and hiking, my beautiful family, and my Border Collie x Poodle, Mollie, whom I love a bit too much.
